studying in france

A little advice needed...

I'm planning to study in France, most probably music (Voice) and French. Wondering if there are any universities in particular (or music schools) strong in those areas. It seems like a given that most universities there would be suitable for French and there are music conservatories for music. yet I could hardly find substantial information on them. I'm looking at schools with a strong academic environment, and preferably partial to literature, history and communications. Also, what is the level of French required to adequately survive university there? And how might I keep up with my English Literature studies there as well? If you've studied in France do share your experience with me!

Much appreciation from me!

Hmm I was hoping to get a professional cert for English Literature but it's not a priority.

My French would be passable if I were to live there, but probably not university standard.

Please do ask. Thank you so much!

French conservatories are uh, different.
From what I've been told, musically you can't get a degree, you get some sort of certification, like culinary school over here, or something. So it wouldn't really be transferable.

I don't know whether this is true of European universities in general, but I know that in British universities, if you're going to study a particular subject (i.e. literature or music), you study that to the exclusion of almost everything else. There isn't a whole lot of double-majoring.

Have you looked into American schools and/or conservatories with good study abroad programs, just in case?
